Kantha Cocoon Jacket | One Size

Asha : Eleven

The Cocoon Coat is made to feel like the warming hug that wrapping a blanket around you gives you. The loose shape is easy to style and layer over anything. It has a roll collar which is binded all along the edge and pockets in the side seams. The slub sleeve is tapered towards the wrist. The length of the jacket sits just below the bum, on your upper thigh. The tassel ended ties at the side hem give the coat the cocoon shape when tied together or leave them hanging loose for a straight fit.

This is part of a small batch, limited run; each piece is uniquely one of a kind.

This coat is made from Bengali Kantha Quilts. This vintage Indian textile is made using upcycled Sari's, no two are the same and so no two of our Coats are the same.

Dating back hundreds of centuries, communities of women from the impoverished region of Bengal would gather together and piece together the preservable parts of their old tattered Sari's. Combining them in a patchwork manner to create beautiful and intricate multi-layer quilts. The single running stitch, signature to the Kantha, is used to hold the layers together. Both sides of the Kantha are wearable so expect the inside of your coat to be as beautiful as the outside.

Given the upcycled nature of the Kantha, they are often perfectly imperfect, expect to find ornate patches layered over other patches. All part of the charm of this intricate tapestry of heritage, community and sustainability
