Our family promise
Simple, delicious, organic ingredients. Ethically sourced. Less sugar, minimal processing and eco-friendly packaging. It’s what our family looks for and I’m sure yours does too. We take our inspiration from today’s family pantry, blending single origin cacao with organic oats, local sea salt, organic almonds, house-roasted coffees, and so much more.
We have been exclusively sourcing organic ingredients for years but decided to put a ring on it. We noticed our own family’s shopping habits almost always looked for that organic seal of approval, and as much as we know that many small-batch producers like ourselves are practicing best in class sustainability, its important to communicate that to the shoppers. So, Mast is now officially organic and USDA certified by the NFC. We are proud to participate in a global movement towards sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
Husband and wife design duo (and longtime Mast family friends) Carla Venticinque Osborn and Aaron Osborn have brought their artful, handmade, organic craft to the front of Mast bars using traditional block printing techniques with hand mixed natural pigments. Their one of a kind abstract designs and breathtaking simplicity make every bar as delicious on the outside as it is on the inside.
When you enjoy Mast chocolate, you’re helping to support Kokoa Kamili, an organic cocoa organization based out of Tanzania in East Africa. Their commitment to paying above fair-trade premiums offers farmers a better quality of life, enabling them to produce the highest quality cocoa beans. Kokoa Kamili purchases ‘wet’ cocoa straight out of the farmers’ pods, which are then fermented and dried in-house. Centralizing this process not only creates a more consistent product, but removes the burden from farmers, allowing them more time to nurture their farms and their families.
Made in small batches
Mast chocolate is made from bean to bar, in-house, preferring traditional methods. We begin by literally hand-sorting every bean, ensuring our impossibly high quality standards are met. The cacao is then lightly roasted in small batches. A clean winnow gently removes the shells from the 'nib'. The nibs are slowly refined under a granite stone wheel for nearly three days while we slowly incorporate the other ingredients.
The finished chocolate is poured into bar shaped moulds, cooled, set, and then wrapped. Now the chocolate is ready to be shipped and enjoyed!
